An Overview of the Future Perfect (Futuro Composto)

The future perfect is used to describe an action that will be completed before another future action.

  • Quando terminares, os meus primos já terão chegado.


How to Form the Future Perfect

The future perfect is formed using the simple future of ter followed by the past participle:

Future perfect Translation
terei falado I will have sp0ken
terás falado you will have spoken
terá falado he/she will have spoken
teremos falado we will have spoken
terão falado they will have spoken

The future perfect expresses:

  • a completed action in the future

  • that happens before another future event
